Depends what you define as escapism.
The most radical may even argue that any form of fun is escapism. However, man is not a machine, it needs a form of respite, a break from the daily grind. Without it, man is bound to break.
Likewise, even the opposite of the argument, the turbo hikki neets can't sustain said lifestyle. Eventually, whatever money they are leeching off is going to run out and their are going to have to 'face reality' (or kill themselves).

Go for a run, fix or make something, excel at a job you like doing (or at least pays well enough without destroying your soul)

Escapism is one of the few things preventing me from putting a gun between my teeth. Life is horrible and without video games/movies/books/tv, there's barely any point of getting out of bed
