The retarded design choices and licensing scheme of GNU systems don't allow for proper binary compatibility. At this point, if you wanted a generic desktop application for Linux that is compatible with a lot of Linux systems and will probably keep running too, you're probably best off targeting Win32.
Gaming, as desktop computing in general, on Linux is a gimmick.
