They must have seen staggering in Monster Hunter or something and thought "Wow, so cool." No idea where the "you can only damage during stagger" thing comes from though. Stagger is already inherently an upgrade to DPS in MH since you don't have to worry about dodging for a bit.

Man I hate playing video games. I hate when bosses have so much life that I get to experience the entire fight and don't accidentally miss half of their abilities because they die instantly. I hate getting to listen to the cool OST more and having to think about how it goes well with the fight. And I especially hate actually having to try at video games and experiencing the satisfaction of overcoming a challenge instead of just winning by default. Also I'm retarded.

I find it more annoying when you have 2,000,000,000 health the enemy has 9,999,999,999 health and your attacks do 473,092,575 damage. Just make all the numbers smaller across the boards, when every number on screen has like 12 digits it just becomes noise.

It's somewhat unavoidable when you have larger power scales, especially egregious in looter ARPGs like Diablo where it keeps going up through levels and then with gear. The numbers can be compressed, but it feels bad to play because it's harder to notice leaps in capability. It's just better to keep the actual numbers obfuscated from players in this case, but that's not something looter ARPGs like doing either.

I'd rather have sub 100 values so those +1, +2, etc.. damage buffs would mean something.

I hated this in FF13 until I realized there was no defense stat, so massive HP pools simulated this, while also making the stagger mechanic and elemental weaknesses and buffs way more important. At that point I came to love it. Imperil is so based.

im not saying its not cool, but games like FF 7 Remake that requires you to just keep hitting the enemy to fill a stagger meter, all the while youre doing jack shit in terms of damage to them until then, is fucking lame and boring

>>713950095
many games just bloat their numbers for no reason
>>713950676
terraria has an actually coherent/reasonable progression of numbers, its not really bloat
tons of normal powerful/elite lategame enemies have very similar ammounts of health and defense as the player, if not a lot less

my rule general rule is that, when deciding the numbers, it should start from defining what "1" is. suppose 1 needs to be the lowest ammount that matters, for something like a DoT or a chip damage/blocked attack or whatever. If you just have a huge number bloat game, then "1" means literally nothing. If the numbers are too small for the game youre making, "1" is too big and it gets very limiting for making low damage attacks. If you find a good middleground thats a good starting point that makes it easier to figure out the damage everything else will deal, and having numbers feel good and satisfying
hence why when im making an overhaul mod for a game, i often like to do something like double every value, or halven every value, etc so 1 stays in a good spot

Because players have a human brain behind them. AI opponents will always be inferior.
This is assuming both sides play by the same rules of combat (they usually don't).

Because the player will take measures to avoid/block/mitigate damage while maximizing their output, and at the same time it's infinitely easier to design an enemy that doesn't react to the player attacks and only uses theirs in a semi-random or fully predetermined fashion. It also works for narrative purposes since typically you want the heroes to fight stuff that's stronger than they are, but is technically possible with enough strategy and skill on their part.
There are of course many exceptions, such as competitive games with AI opponents or things like Pokemon, but those are also a good example of how either the AI is allowed to cheat of you will beat them fairly easily once you have a basic grasp of the game mechanics.

Is it the game with blood? That's indeed excellent, as healing is integrated in combat in multiple ways, too. There's even surface reaction with water.
