Is there a single open world game that doesn't lose steam halfway through? It's like the devs forget you need to introduce new content/mechanics/enemy types in order to stop the game from being dull. Linear games understand this, why don't open world games?

i don't like open world games because they copy/paste content all over the place

i don't mean reusing monsters. monsters existing in more than one location is fine.

what i mean is they'll script some sort of challenge where you have to do a certain task then they copy/paste that exact task all over the map a dozen times.

It's true for the last three AAA open world games I played (Ghost of Tsushima, Breath of the Wild, Spider Man.) If these popular, highly reviewed games do not represent the genre, what does?

Skyrim has no steam whatsoever

>Breath of the Wild
Lies, that game's gimmick is precisely giving and teaching you all the powers right in the obligatory tutorial section.

OSRS as an iron is more like a bell curve. Very early game sucks, late game sucks, everything in between is pretty good

Yeah, the ones that lose it even earlier.

Open world used to be just a way to kill a studio, but now that the people providing the money or more retarded and willing to fund 6+ year development cycles it's a crutch for shit management who can take their hand off the wheel for longer periods of time and just allow their devs to shit out incoherent nonsense that will eventually be stitched together with a bare minimum of effort.
