why does more people keep playing 2 over 4? it's not 4 supposedly to be a modernized version of 2 and much better in every single aspect?

4 has worse gameplay, graphics, performance and overall lacks features that 2 has like extremely robust hotkeys, and massive campaign selection. 4 is good but it just isnt as good.

I keep forgetting 4 exists.

I do like 4 more than 2
I mean 2 is the classic one, it's good, and has lots of content, but 4 has the QoL that 2 will never get. And the civs are actually different. You could say they're different, but personally, 4 is the right direction for an AoE.
If anything, graphics are washed out and I don't like that. But other than that it's fine.

2 has better artstyle and I'm actually against QoL changes and I think that's part of the reason why. The more QoL the more important autistic unit micro is. It's not like omg get rid of queues etc. but there has to be a balance between no QoL and too much QoL, I think 2 is in the right spot there.

IDK. I read AoE4 players saying that their game is more "modern" because projectiles always hit their target... and I am like, what? How does that make the game more modern? Arrows and shots missing in aoe2 is an entire gameplay feature, that's why techs like ballitics and thumb ring exist. Your units are SUPPOSED to be less accurate at shooting targets before you get those. By getting rid of it you're not adding a QoL feature, you're literally making the game more shallow

Not rts, but League the more updates it got the less point at click skills the game had, and the more skillshot were added or changed to. Does this mean League got more arcaic in its gameplay instead of modernizing?

I think thats about it only cool thing 4 does is have unique music for whatever civ you're playing

4 doesnt have handcannoneers that look as nice as aoe2's. aoe2's do need a buff though.
