There is a BIG difference between wii sports and welcome tour though. The wii needed a game bundled in to sell people on the motion controls. Everyone knows what the switch 2 is, so something like that sin't really necessary. Now, I'm not saying that shit is worth even 10 dollars, but I genuinely do not believe that making welcome tour free would have shipped ANY more units.

I'm pulling out numbers out of my ass, but let's say 500.000 people buy Welcome Tour. Nintendo makes 5 million dollars in profit (minus cheaper Japanese and third world version minus taxes). That's 5 million dollars they could've spent on marketing. Having people stream their game and showing non-buyers what amazing features their new console have.

I'm not sure how much 5 million dollars is for them, but it's likely only a fraction of what the board of directors on Nintendo make yearly.

Ridiculous not so much for the paid aspect but because it's software that has no standalone appeal since it's literally just a tutorial for the console's features.

>Drag X Drive is just $20
Good deal even if it ends up just being online multiplayer matches with no significant unlockables.

Every era of Nintendo makes some good and some bad decisions at the same time.

I agree with this. I don't think making welcome tour free would have moved any units, but I'm not really sure it needed to exist in the first place.

Reggie seemed like a genuine leader. I haven't heard of a single notable thing Bowser has done in 6 years, which may mean nothing, but also means there's no evidence against NoA returning to being a spineless subsidiary of a lumbering Japanese company.

the real difference is, Wii sports was "bundled" by increasing the system price by $50. nobody would accept another $10 price hike just to include welcome tour.

Instead of taking those 5 million dollars back, they could've spared that sum for the consumers (the tour is free). Due to this, the word-of-mouth machine takes off and gets people streaming and talking about how cool Nintendo and their system is.

They sold out the system, but have a lot of negative flack right now. This might affect their future sales for people sitting on fence and being told to boycott Nintendo.

I'm not an expert on the field but this is what I assume.

You are vastly overstating the appeal of welcome tour. I really don't think it would have helped to sell any more switch 2s. Unlike the wii, people largely know what the switch 2 is. Hell, welcome tour didn't really need to exist at all.

I'm not saying that it was their best time, just that it's better than the last 15 years. Oh cool, the switch sold more than 150 million units, and they got those critically acclaimed games. Right. Nintendo games took more risks back then. Now everything feels too safe, even Zelda and Animal Crossing. It wasn't perfect, and Mario's flanderization started there. But at least the Wii had Strikers Charged. Everyone behaves like a btich in the new one. Lifeless clean Mario? Are you implying that's not the case now? What are you, 14? Do you think that the Mario movie gave him a great personality? Do you really believe that hasn't been the case since the wii u and the 3ds?

I mean, damn, you really want me to call you a dumb boomer. Well guess what "boomer," the last time Nintendo was genuinely good was in the 90s with the SNES. Since then, it's always
>I mean, they got some problems here and there, but overall Nintendo is still good

For what it's worth, aside from that one joke where he had Mario and Luigi dolls tied up on his desk, Bowser did say he didn't want to just be Reggie 2.0 and try to have his own memes or something. Would've been particularly easy with that name. He's very much just a corporate guy.

This is the key part.
A little bit of actual unforced charm and at least pretense to understanding the lesser man goes a long way. Shame this is pretty much lost art by now and CEOs are basically aliens these days.
