Since modern gaming, and the industry as a whole is going to shit, there's at least the treasure trove that is gaming's history. If you can find ports/ remakes/ remasters, or mitigate the unnecessary jacked up pricing of secondhand gaming, there's bound to be something to catch your eye.

I don't have a "main game". But i do just get addicted to playing some game until I burn out and move on to play something else. I guess the game I'm currently addicted to is saints row because I bought it on steam sale for $7 just a few days ago. The game is still buggy but it still has its charm and a lot of fun as a sandbox open world. Too bad the server shut down and can't share and download bosses.

Diablo II is my best main game. I must have played it for tens of thousands of hours. Unfortunately it's strength of being a relaxing and familiar game to run through is it's weakness because I often feel suicidal when I play it. The realization of all those wasted hours, running through "randomly" generated maps and recognizing the tileset and knowing where things are anyways and the rat race to kit out your character is both comforting soul crushing.

My mind wanders a lot and at times I fantasize about entering the world of a videogame. In the case of Diablo it's me being ripped apart by demons and eaten alive by Itchies (a swarm of bloodsucking flying insects in the Deserts of Act 2) and then I can be a Corpse or Dead Rogue container and be clicked on and kicked open for minor loot.

I had this same problem and I just accepted that I'm not the type of person who can replay games that often or play the same game over and over

wow classic is my main MMO but I play that for at most two months then I get bored and quit for a few months/a year or so. League of legends is a similar deal, I play for a few weeks then get bored and stop playing for years

one of my favorite vidyas is paper mario 64 but I only replay it once every 8 years or so. I'm just not much for repetition. I DO replay games besides paper mario of course but I need a lot of time before it's fun again

I've been searching for this my whole like because I always feel like I'm missing something everyone else gets.
Like I played WoW back when everyone was addicted to it and I just didn't get it. It was fine, but there was nothing about it that made me want to play endlessly.
Played a bunch of those other addictive games ie Minecraft, Fortnite etc and same thing.
I've tried dropping a bunch of money on microtransactions thinking that maybe having a monetary investment would make me stick around playing them but nope.
There's just no game fun enough to keep going back to and playing for hours on end.

I can't recommend that anyone claim a main game. Get too attached to a single game and it'll likely end in disappointment. I stuck with Halo years longer than I should have because of that, and all I got out of it was frustration. Now I hop between a variety of titles that scratch different niches. If one platformer turns to shit I'll find another.
