but typically they follow the OLDSCHOOL game design philosophies:
Normal is the way you start,
Hard (and up) are there for those looking for extra challenges on later playthroughs. This tends to confuse zoom zooms who are obviously used to the Casual era poop being kinda easy no matter what.
SH2 and 3 even have separated Action and Puzzle difficulties that let you spice things up to your liking.
I've personally beaten all four OG SH titles on just about all the difficulty settings. SH2 is piss easy no matter what, besides one or two potential show-stoppers you need to prepare to, where as SH3's "EXTRA" difficulty models get more and more broken as you beat the game.
The puzzles themselves were never an issue, not even 25 years ago without the interwebs. Sans shit like
