I also really liked the Lunatic Pandora flying over Esthar City, Cifer killing Odin.
You know, fuck it, Rinoa getting possessed by Adel in space was spooky as fuck.
And furthermore, Squall reclaiming her before she gets send into space by the Esthar.
Final Fantasy VIII is amazing.

People never really talk about it but the sound effect design in FF8 was 11/10. Everything from Quistis' memorable whip crack to the summon/magic sounds was absolutely phenomenal.

Either the intro sequence or Quistis saving Squall's ass with the minigun on the beach. A real shame that scene is technically optional.

IX was originally supposed to be a spinoff or celebration game or whatever. Probably the equivalent of what World of FF is now. Spirits Within and the budget being spent on IX made them make it a numbered game and probably change enough things to make it live up to that, but that was never the original intention.
