I'd really love to hear Chris one day talk about his actual feelings on things, especially the period around like 2019 ExileCon where he cried tears of happiness announcing PoE2 like it was his absolute dream project, then eventually going radio silent before the game even his early access and later announcing his own studio and game. I've seen a lot of people pointing the finger at Tencent like they were the reason the game went to shit, but a lot of the same people saying that are also praising Mark as if he's somehow not beholden to Tencent or something. I really think it's obvious that it's simply just the PoE community is too full of autistic addict asshats and borderline-schizophrenic retards that have basically just bullied the team into making a game they don't really want to make for a decade now, and Chris got sick of it.

Reading over some of his longer reddit posts from the last 5 or so years it's very clear he dislikes the community's vision on the game immensely and tried extremely hard to steer the sentiment away from zoomer shit and number-must-only-go-up design.

Path of Exile 2 was incredible, the best framework for expansion I've ever seen in a AAA game. But then the POE1 tradeniggers descended upon it. We want it to be faster, like POE1! We want more loot explosions, like POE1!
It's really telling that Jonathan and Mark even outright said that people who never played POE1 were SIGNIFICANTLY more successful at POE2 than "series veterans". POE1 players were given a 10/10 ARPG and they're to this day whining about how it should be ruined so they get their divs/hr faster, check the subreddit

I don't blame Chris at all for seeing that the war for the Vision couldn't be won and letting POE1 players rot while he left.
