You posted it. R3make is Re3 turned into a theme park ride which sucks because besides that it is one of the better videogame depictions of a city experiencing an apocalyptic event.
>At the start of the game, the city is in absolute chaos as fires force civillians out onto the streets right into the hands of the growing zombie hordes
>Helicopters in the sky. Gunshots everywhere. PSA's blaring over the speakers trying to bring some semblence of order to the chaos.
>After the nemesis rooftop fight (which was cool but i hate how you run up the building so fast you don't even notice you're in the OG's newspaper office), you find yourself in the street behind the RPD and the city is absolutely quiet
>All of the chaos which ravaged through the city a few hours ago is gone. Only a few scattered survivors still remain, police radios still lighting up with the occasional chatter from patrols who haven't realized that command has already collapsed
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjPM8om2Eyw
>Did you enjoy those four and a half minutes of excellent atmosphere? We hope you did because SIKE HERE'S ANOTHER SCRIPTED NEMESIS CHASE DO YOU LIKE HOW WE COMPLETELY GUTTED HIM????
I hate how much I love the few parts of this game which were actually good.

I'm fairly sure he could show up at random sometimes too, but even if I'm wrong about that, he still appeared more often than he does in the remake. Making him so scripted was a massive step back after they already made X a persistent stalker in 2's remake. What made Nemesis so cool in OG 3 was how intimidating the idea of being hunted by him was, the fact he'd chase you through multiple rooms, etc.He should have gotten the same treatment as X. Reducing him to scripted encounters was incredibly lame.

His encoutners in the remake are much more limited, and the few where he can follow you for a short time between different spots are trivialized by a single grenade. A number of his enounters like the highrise before his first true boss fight is just a chase and his rocket launcher sequence is a single alleyway where you dodge it followed by another 1 area where he tries to crush jill and chases her to the gas station to get blown up in a cutscene and then another single room/hallway where jill gives her you want stars line before slipping into the sewers. The encounters don't have the same sense of a battle with him than just booking it to the next cutscene and safe zone. Then before you know it he is a dog monster for the second half of the game what I remember being 2 similar arena fights with the seconding adding in some zombies and an enviormental hazard to help fight him + him getting a few new attacks. Then you have the final blob fight which is a dodge fest waiting for the super weapon but on inferno with no coins you basically get either 1 hit killed or stumbled to then get one hit killed meaning you have to perfect the fight from start to finish. The RNG acid spray makes it even more annoying. It's a step down from his last blob/dog form in the original.a04nt

In Ps1 original he shows up at scripted moments (although there’s way more and a bunch of mutually exclusive depending on how you’ve progressed) but the key difference is that in Ps1 game when he shows up nothing else changes, you still have to complete whatever objective you were doing, just now Nemisis is after you while you do it. You can run from him until he leaves (but doing this causes surprise spawns in a ton of possible locations) or you can fight him, which is extremely difficult but gives rewards.

Remake when he appears the only objective you have is “run forwards along linear path” there’s one tiny section at beginning where you can technically go find some collectibles while he’s chasing you, and technically fight him, but you shoudve already grabbed those collectible anyway, and they are super optional even if you didn’t, and by “fight Nemisis” I mean throw a singke grenade at him. It’s also possible to have proper fight, but why the fuck would you when a singke grenade does same job as all your bullets? And after that first encounter every future Nemisis encounter is either a scripted “run forwards through hallway with nothing else to do” or a boss fight where you have no choice to fight him.

Another remake change is that the Plant 42 outcomes are simplified. Barry always shows up with the flamethrower if you use the V Jolt on the roots, so you can kill it without firing a single shot. If you don't use it, you have to fight both phases.

>his first true boss fight
It's also really dumb that they threw those mandatory damage sponge fights at you
Sure there were a few times in the original where you had to fight him (IIRC, the clock tower yard; protecting Jill on the return from the hospital; the waste room with the acid pipes; and then the final encounter with the beam cannon) but those encounters didn't feel like they fucked with the flow of the game so much.
Not only is it much less interesting to have these set piece fights instead of a persistent threat, It makes resource management boring too because they make him a massive fucking damage sponge but then they just give you tons of ammo immediately before/during the fight anyway.

REmake is, all in all, the better game but it did turn the mansion from a proper 1960s modern art villa(which it apparently is supposed to be) that looks like it was recently abandoned into a 100 year old mansion that has been empty for decades.

That's a really good point anon. I didn't think of it that way, but that's why his implementation in the remake sucks so much.
That's a very important element in that it gives you the feeling of being harassed and hunted instead of just having the occasional scripted Nemesis scene.

I personally like the original better. It's a fairly close race, but it flows better without the nonsense they added to the remake, and your character choice affects the early game more substantially, because Jill can open some doors Chris can't.
It also feels less sluggish to control, and imo, as beautiful as the graphics in the remake are, the mansion is a bit more interesting and ironically creepy in the original because it actually has some color in it.

They both have their merit. I think the RE1 remake tries too hard at some points, between a bunch of the lit candles and shit making the atmosphere seem a bit too unbelievable at times. I think the corny cutscenes in the OG 1 add a fair bit, but there are some almost equally as corny cutscenes in the remake as well. Crimson Heads are an amazing mechanic though, and it adds a level of tension that has yet to be paralleled in the rest of the series.

RE1 also has the benefit of Arranged mode
