Its alright. Like most such games, the hardest part is the initial levels. Both because of lack of game-knowledge and your characters being at their weakest point.
It has a couple of neat gimmicks, once you unlock them...
And a couple annoying ones. Chief among them being that you can't revive characters in the field, and the game loves dropping things that one shot you. Another is somewhat related early game curveball it throws you after it lets you 'respawn' at base if you get wiped out, it then shuts that off for two back-to-back bossfights that while beatable, are a large step up from the random encounters of the area.
But, after that fight, the game kinda bottoms out difficulty wise. You have your full toolkit, minus some later exploration tools, and you characters are starting to hit where their skills really come online.
I don't regret the time I spent on it, but I also haven't felt the need to wade back in and finish it.
