>Stormtrooper advertised next to Mario, like a SW title on N64 was just as big of a deal

Was Star Wars really this big in gaming back then?

SOTE was a big success of a book, LucasArts was firing on all cylinders and the Special Editions were coming out in a few months so there was tons of buzz around Star Wars. Star Wars in the 90s was excellent until the prequals showed up.

What else they'd put there? There were like 5 games at launch and only mario and star wars were something that people would actually recognize

Nintendo actually made a deal with Lucasarts to have console exclusivity of 4 star wars games, and 3 of them were commercial successes.

Yeah, Star Wars was huge in the 90s. Just look up the Episode 1 hype.

Star Wars were huge from the late 90's until like 2011. I guess we were all there to see what happened after that

Star Wars in general was that big, which was the point of putting it on the box, to entice normies.
Star Wars was uncomplicated too. Gen X chuds used to argue about whether Return of the Jedi was merely great (because of the Ewoks) or as awesome as the other two. That was as big as disagreement got. The shitty EU novels hadn't been around long enough for autists to become gay about them.

The remastered movies in the 90s helped but it was also all about rendered new gfx in this era. N64 3d graphics were all about cgi renderings in adverts since it was the biggest leap in tech since the snes.
Star wars shadows of the empire and rogue squadron were highly anticipated games because of the hype. So it got lots of renders next to Mario.

SOTE was a massive marketing stunt by Lucasfilm.
Basically all the Star Wars merch a movie would have, books, toys, games but no movie. It was basically a dry run test to see if there was still intrest in the Star Wars IP 10 years after ROTJ, it was done to decide if they would work on the prequels.
The N64 game was suppose to be the tentpole of this marketing push, but the game was delayed until winter

Star Wars games were huge. Dark Forces came out in 1995, and people loved that one, 1994 and 1993 respectrively had Star Wars TIE Fighter and X-Wing, Star Wars had popular games on the SNES, basically at this time, if any game had Star Wars written on it, you had a pretty decent chance of getting a great fucking game, many of which hold up to this day.
Notable exception was Star Wars Chess, which was seen as a shittier "Battle Chess". Oh and I personally don't like Rebel Assault II, because it's a clunky ass rail shooter. But the game was still a success I believe.

From the release of Heir to the Empire in the early 90s which revived it all the way to the end of the 2000s Star Wars was a franchise juggernaut.

Worth mentioning that the 'Special Edition' re-release of the original trilogy was in August of 1997. It was after the Shadows of the Empire game of course, but Star Wars really was a hot IP still.

The og trilogy was good in spite of him and not because of him. Similar to Kojima he needed someone to reign in his retardation.
