Nobody wants to pretend to be someone worse than they are in real life. They want to play as someone either superior to themselves or at least equivalent but different
That's also why games with black protagonists do badly
I like how they wrote a story reason for why he needs an exoskeleton to walk around so he can't just take it off. I just wish the intro was skippable on replays

IIRC the exoskeletons were permanent anyways. I could have sworn in the park DLC there was an audiolog from someone saying they couldn't fit on an airplane.

I think the chips they install in your brain / spine are permanent, but you pick up a couple different RIGs throughout the game.
