The game launches on linux however insta crashes when trying to join a server or start your own listen server. Lines up with the 4 protondb reports from 6 years ago so there might just be something fundamentally wrong with how the game tries to load under linux/wine. Theres a single youtube video from 9 years ago of it being played with Wine Gallium Nine but the uploader didnt leave any special instructions on how he got it work or if it was the steam release or the moddb version. Wouldnt be surprised if the 64bit and native updates for HL2 make this a bit messier.
tl;dr: use your windows boot unless you want to be autistic and self help yourself out of hell.
