Arcade games you improve at the same task until you succeed.
Roguelites you fail at different tasks until you succeed.

Roguelikes are easy to make because you make the player redo the same content multiple times, so as a developer you can be lazy and make money, and give the illusion of having a game with a lot of content, when really the player just has to keep restarting it. This is what the Majora's Mask developers did to save time and add fluff because of their rushed schedule.

Arcade games were the ancient predecessor to modern video games, and they thrived during a time when literally nobody owned a video game and everybody had to pay money every single time they wanted to play a video game and every time they died they had to pay more money to play again. This predatory greedy strategy worked becuase nobody owned their own video games yet lol.

Before people owned video games you would have to go to an arcade to play a video game and they would charge you money to "CONTINUE" every time you died, and they could get away with it because you didn't own the game. This kinda thing is probably only still popular in like South Korea or Japan but it's dead in the West now because everybody owns their games now... well sort of... you own the license to play the game, because companies are still just as greedy as they were back then... probably more greedy.
