What's the best controller?

I love the AB buttons on GameCube. A big green action button just makes so much sense. And the cancel is a little red button next to it.

Probably the switch pro controller 2 as although I don't own it I really liked the first iteration and the second seems to have improved it. The reason why I like it is due to me to being way too used to the Xbox controller layout so PS controllers don't work for me. It really comes done to personally preference at the end of the day.

Only 360 lasted a couple of years, but the d-pad and triggers weren't that good.
Now I have a 8BitDo Ultimate 2.4G. Same quality of materials, same or better buttons (LB and RB in Xbox gamepads feel like from cheap remote control toys), similar price and you get both a cable and a charging dock that doubles as a Bluetooth receiver, works in X-input and D-input modes.
I've been using it for 14 months, still no problems.

The Saturn controller is the best purely for 2D. Obviously it isn't good for 3D as it does not have an analogue stick.

they're not analog, it's just a pad that mushes out and bridges more contacts when you press harder
the hard state is either pressed or unpressed, so it's still a binary input, but like how a d-pad has mutually exclusive inputs that cannot be pressed at the same time, the "pressure sensitive" input cannot be pressed without the lighter input being pressed alongside it
