Thinking of making a little game in my free time this summer. RPG but without a lot of focus in the battles and more in the narrative. Which engine should I use if I have close to none programming experience? RPG Maker maybe? If so which one?

Alright cocksucker, turn based combat game. That better? The combat isn't the focus, I don't want to make something big in scope, just a short little thing

what the fuck is up with you guys? There's gamedev threads every other day with people making games (shitty or not) every other day. I'm not talking about making a fucking DQ or FF, just asking what RPG Maker is easiest to use for a beginner

Unity is a good option, since it has a lot of drag and drop features, as well as good documentation. Godot is easier overall for beginners, but it's also more quirky.

but wouldn't I have to code everything? Isn't RPG maker easier for this short of thing? I should have worded it better but I want to make a short RPG maker game like those horror ones in the 2000s

It depends. Even if you want some "fancier" features like editing certain UI elements or doing some graphics tricks, you'll need to do some script editing or using someone else's scripts/plugins. Still, long term it would be better to spend some time with either Godot or Unity.
