Why is Pokémon the only successful monster-collecting series?
>Megami Tensei – Nobody cares about this series outside of Persona, and Persona is a neutered version of Megami Tensei.
>Digimon – Mostly popular in Japan. The West considers it a Pokémon rip-off.
>Yo-kai Watch – Mostly popular in Japan. The West considers it a Pokémon rip-off.
>Palworld – Popular because its monster designs are too similar to Pokémon.
>Temtem – Dead.

Because monster collecting is for babies.

Having a rabid fanbase that would buy a brick that has Pokemon written over it as a official product does wonder.

>Megami Tensei
It's too japanese and lacks iconic, simple mascot monster designs
>Digimon
Arrived just after Pokemon, so it was the "ripoff" by default. They also failed to capitalize on the little success they had.
>Yo-kai Watch
Too japanese to venture outside of its domestic market much.
>Palworld
Popular because it came out at a time where everyone shat on Pokemon for being low quality. People flocked to it not because of its quality, but because literally anything is better than the Switch Pokemon games. I wonder if they will continue to hold up or fall off completely.
>Temtem
A little too close to the Pokemon formula, but with shit deviantArt designs. It was bound to fail.
>Casette Beasts
Did its own little things, but ultimately can't catch a large audience.
>Heartbeat
More comparable to monster rancher I guess, its only claim to fame is the devs gf getting into fights with trans people. which culminated in an extremely funny allegory involving the Eiffel Tower

Simple.
Branding. Excellent launch. Socializing aspect.
>Branding
It's for kids. But adults can enjoy it too.
>Excellent launch
Pokemania. If you were there you were there. Anime, games, cards(both tgc and collectable cards)
>Socializing aspect
You had to trade with someone to get all mons on your Pokemon Red/Blue. It makes people talk to each other about Pokemon. And now Pokemon is a mutual interest for these two people.
Let's see your examples

>Megami Tensei
Too "mature", mythological creatures and religious imagery turns fuckton of people away. Also is very "Japanese".
>Digimon
Naming wasn't the best and people accused it being a "clone" of Pokemon. Didn't help that designs went all the way to rocket-filled super monster beasts, alienating lots of grills. These days Digimon is very "anime" with their designs as well.
>Yo-Kai Watch
Too Japanese. And as you said. Has no appeal outside of Nippon because Yokai is too alien of a concept for most of the west and translating it is pointless, especially when it is full of Japanese folklore focused stuff.
>Palworld
Copies Pokemon shamelessly with fucked up art direction(pulling different artstyles from Gen 1 - Gen 9) and that's that. Live service slop and will probably never be completed. Used drama to be popular. Think of a modern day Sonic. It may stick around and was bit more popular than Pokemon for a while. Generative AI usage doesn't help either and kinda stained their reputation among some groups.
>Temtem
Tried to be Pokemon too much.

I think this is the same problem that people have when trying to make their "own Smash Bros. Melee". Yeah, few Melee players try it out but they go back to Melee because they like Melee. If all you offer is Melee but not the same, then people rather play Melee.
If you offer Pokemon but not the same, then people go back to Pokemon. Pokemon just did everything right with Gen 1 and can ride that with it's cultural relevancy and good marketing, constant anime + merchandising

Pokemon has been very consistent with their (mainline) games and animes while digimon keep having identity crisis.

Palworld is a big success though. Literally the only reason Pokemon is still relevant is because there are enough super diehard fans from when the series used to be good. Pokemon has been garbage for awhile now.

>Megami Tensei
had like 5 games plus spinoffs over decades, successful
>Digimon
has like a bazillion games, animes, merch, even a TCG, successful
>Yo-kai Watch
don't know shit about this but it felt like the most forced corporate attempt to make a pokemon clone i've seen, can't comment on it besides this
>Palworld
you said it yourself, it's popular so it's successful
whether it stays successful in the future or not is another thing, since so far it's just 1 game
>Temtem
dogshit game, dogshit monster designs, dogshit everything really

nigger just because they aren't literally the biggest franchise in the world like pokemon doesn't means they aren't successful

If Kameo released as originally intended, Pokémon would be dead in the water.
