Elephants can't digest fucking anything, the efficiency of food input to energy output is abysmal, as with most large herbivores. Which is why people use elephant shit as dry kindling, it comes out very grassy and dead if left out in the sun, of which there is no shortage in Africa. This and same goes for horses, when winter feed was tight people around here would dry horse shit and feed it to cows because it would still contain digestible materials which cow's vastly more efficient digestive tract could tap into. Because horses were far more expensive they got to eat first and cattle dined on what was left with a serving of shit for dessert.
