It just doesn't have Nintendo magic anymore.

Maybe 8’s dlc demoralized me or something because world is the most fun I’ve had in kart in a decade. So far I’m not interested in looking back

8 was shit. I think the reviewers fucked up their numbers.
In both the casual and competitive aspects world is far better.

There's some great added depth from the new Jump and Grind mechanics, but its mostly "just more mario kart".
The open world and even the infamous intermission tracks are actually decent filler content but not special or elevating.

It's very clear that they intend a similar life cycle to 8 where they release new modes and content over time.
"Classic Mode" is I assume a priority at the moment.
200cc seems obvious
Curious to see if new track drops will come with additional open world areas to explore. They could plunk islands down in the ocean or create portals, etc.

It's really nice, it's just not mindblowing.

Conceptually I was one of the people who imagined a "Mario Kart World" before it was announced, and in my head there would have been a greater sense of progression and maybe even platforming.

The next iteration will either need some sense of narrative or rpg progression, or just go balls to the wall with the cast and karts and tracks like Smash Bros.
