It is beyond saving. No one really cares about MMOs in an age where everything is online already.

But given practically infinite funding and a free hand, I'd reboot it from the moment Thrall wakes up from his nightmare at the start of WC3. Move Blizzards HQ from degenerate California to a chud country like Hungary, hire only huge fucking nerds really into video games instead of culture warriors and I'm pretty sure something of value might be produced. Although every single one of their IPs would have been rebooted as they are irredeemably pozzed with stupid shit like star god kerrigan. I'd also pour money into fun little mid-level side projects class Heroes of the Storm, and a sequel to Lost Vikings and Blackthorne as not every game has to be a massive AAA hit.

I'd silo the progression of each type of gameplay content so that it is completely seperate from each other. This means removing leveling, but keeping the campaign. There is absolutely zero argument for forcing people to level a character to max level just so they can play a co-op game with their friends. Character power comes from progressing in each silo of content and is specific to that content (M+, Raids, Delves, World content).
I should be able to play whatever class or spec I want, and I should be able to get a friend to play with me without them being forced to spend hours and hours getting a character to max level they might not even enjoy playing.
MMO's are a dated concept and carry way too much baggage which takes away from what is otherwise a really fun co-op game.

I'd also make it so you can see players are NPC's more than 100 yards away

I'd also completely remove the concept of 'realms' and just use the already existing phasing shit to keep all areas populated (As it was intended)

Nothing needs to be done.
Blizzard has shown that they respond to feedback and are actively improving the game.
Two features that come in mind are the upcoming player housing and the ability to see who is a leaver in group finder.
They also made massive improvements to the user interface even though I still prefer elvui.

It's unironically beyond saving at this point.
You can't remove dungeon finder and cross-server raids and recreate server community at this point. People will just quit in masses.
You can't put back PvP servers after you turned every server into PvE carebear server.
It's almost impossible to unfuck the classes after they ingrained their Diablo 3 class design deeply into their core mechanics starting from Warlords of Draenor and Legion.
You can't remove Mythic+ which is the biggest source of cancer and elitism ruining the game and even makes raiding not fun anymore.
I haven't played for years, but I'm not aware of any of these having fixed.

You can't, Blizzard is under Activision and as long as the graph looks good the investors won't give a fuck. The people that are ruining the game are unironically the people still playing it, you would see massive changes to WoW if the players stopped playing, but they're not so retail will just continue it's shit spiral. The lore and garbage cringe cinematics/animations everyone is laughing at currently is just something not even 1% of the retail community cares about, the vast majority logs in to farm old dungeons for transmogs, farm achievements, does raids/mythic+ spam, nobody cares about the story and what the next main villain will be, that time is long gone.

So if you want to fix WoW, as in retail I assume.. then kill all the retards still playing it

It's less about saving WoW and more about saving the whole MMO genre. I guess to start:

Even after doing all of that it still probably wouldn't have mass appeal and therefore wouldn't get funded.

The literal addicts, who have been playing and farming mounts and cheevos and pets and transmog gear and shit for ten, fifteen, or even twenty years, are not going to quit now for any reason. This should always have been the case. People don't socialize in large groups. 2-3 max. If they were smart about it raids would have been 5 mans a patch or 2 later than soloable another patch or 2 later.

They're already moving towards that with the ai teammates in dungeons and whatever. You will eventually just have to join a dungeon or raid in the finder and play it with ai, if you want to bring a friend or two you can just join the ai raid as a group, that will be the future of WoW and the retail community will love it

You would actually need to make a World of Warcraft 2. The problem with that is a lot of players would be butthurt that they poopsocked every achievement and spent their entire paychecks on cosmetics. Such a shock could risk losing some whales, the true target customer for Blizzard, which is why I doubt they'd ever do it. That leaves us with the problem that WoW will never get better without significantly changing and removing parts of the game. Best bet is Classic players get a bone thrown to them like TBC Season of Discovery.

it's legitimately a service economy where third worlders do digital jobs for dad gamers. they farm their gold, they kill the boss, etc. even if no one wants to buy their actual wow gold, they can exchange it for tokens which give them $15 blizzard balance which they can stockpile to sell copies of games like call of duty, diablo, avowed(lmao), etc. there's always a yearly call of duty for them to turn their blizzard shop cash into real cash with.

Return the class design to Mists of Pandaria. Remove Hero Classes. So DH, Evoker, DK. Monk gets to stay thanks to the technicality it's not a hero class.
Nerf Shadowmeld into the ground so majority of end game content isn't dominated by Nig Elves.
Sack the current writing staff and replace them with people who actually have an idea of what they want to do with the Horde other than be the Alliances cheerleaders who then appear on all the advertising also.
Ban any Elf and Void plots for at least 6 years. The game's gone long past the point of fatigue with both of them.
Add Ogres.
Nerf the loot gain from Mythic+ so Raiding returns to being the true PVE end game progression.
Kill off the last remaining remnants of Kn-ACKs shitty storytelling and his OCs that have caused way more damage than good to this franchise.

As Microsoft, I'd shut down blizzard and quietly finance turtle wow. It would release as a paid for boxed product in the style of the original boxed release of WoW.

It would release with the option of playing the game single player as was intended at one point in WoWs development. Using your other toons as recruit-able computer controlled allies at inns. Alliance and Horde could only recruit toons from their respective factions.

Traditional mmo realms would also exist with different rule sets. Single player realms would be hosted locally, multiplayer realms obviously not.
