At the time the backlight was a huge upgrade, but now I've seen people defend the lack of backlight on the GBA for novelty reasons.
Not everyone had an SP if you got the original GBA (meaning they wouldn't have a backlit GBA model), and I still hate the way the SP feels. SP has no headphone port. People who don't care about the DSI having a GBA slot probably didn't have any or many GBA games anyways, because there's a lot of Gen Z whose first handheld was a DSI. So there's enough people who just missed out on GBA games all together, because of the lack of GBA slot.
