roleplaying with premade characters is still roleplaying
choosing to interact or not with specific quests or npcs is still roleplaying even if they only have a single thing to say
having multiple endings or routes based on actions taken is not an rpg aspect, it's a cyoa one.

rpgs are not good unless they're played at a table. Videogames are a bad format for them, and it's good that jrpgs don't even try.
