Should he be brought back as a serious villain especially after Frontiers and the new "dark era"? I really think Mephiles raises the stakes well and Sonic is the most kino in that environment

he should just stay in the past. give us a clone that mirrors sonic so we can explore the negative's of sonic's optimism and growing power throughout the games
