The vast majority of the WRs in Time Trials used these several times a lap, and like half of them use characters with dogshit speed stats because the Handling needed to do optimal wallriding/rail grinding lines. Golds by themselves aren't that good. Don't get me wrong, they're good, but golds without a shock dodge will likely end in you getting fucked out of your comeback and you'll lose, especially near the end. I would say the main issue is that right now, a lot of the game revolves around lightning. I'm not saying the person with lightning will win, but lightning does effectively decide how the game will go. If you shock dodge on the last lap and have a golden saved, you will probably win unless a Boo player also dodged a shock and is decently far ahead. Lightning surprisingly helps frontrunners sometimes if no one dodges because the punishment is more severe for baggers that get hit, but it still feels like the deciding moment for a game. Despite being nerfed, it still dictates the pace of the race.

Yeah, Shock has basically gone back to Wii in terms of relevance (getting hit with a bad Shock literally just loses you the race so "dodging" it is a skill in and of itself) despite getting nerfed to shit in World. Adding more tracks isn't going to fix the "intermission ending on a single lap" problem though. People want the option to play these tracks (as well as future tracks) with 3 laps, not just in VS Mode but also in the grand prix cups too.

There are 22 P-Switch missions in free roam that are literally just multi-lap races. Some are obvious like the SNES tribute courses, but some are practically new layouts within some of the existing tracks, and others are entirely new tracks unto themselves. They even turned Big Donut into a race track for one of the missions (which makes sense considering how fucking huge it is now).

Forcing open world into Mario Kart and trying so fucking hard to force its intermission tracks onto players was a massive mistake. Zelda needed open world because the series was in a critical and sales tailspin due to hyperlinear design giving players fatigue; something was fundamentally broken with Zelda games up to that point. There was no such issue with Mario Kart; they just greedily saw how people went nuts for BotW and lazily assumed that they could replicate that success by stapling an open world onto their best-selling IP, and now they arrogantly think themselves as groundbreaking artists for it.

It doesn't help that most of what you get out of the open world are fucking stickers, which do nothing and don't even show up easily/at all on most vehicles.
