Because Yoshi despises everything that came before he took over the game. All of that lore that's been systemically raped and destroyed was pre-ARR lore. The Twelve, Garleans, Ascians, Eorzea, etc. All of that was pre-Yoshida FFXIV. It's not just Yoshi P, it's Ishikawa, Hiroi and the rest of the current writer's room. The WOL went from just being some random adventurer with Hydaelyn's blessing to being the reincarnation of an asican who was also best of friends with Emet Selch (one of Ishikawa's OC donut steel's) and even though the Ascians lived in a perfect peaceful world they had a special role for somebody who's job was just going around adventuring (in a world without conflict and thereby without any need for adventuring btw), specificially so we can give a cute and funny little reasoning for why the WOL loves adventuring you see, oh and now we got our old past-Ascian self's funny summon crystal that let's us summon exactly 7 other adventurers to help whenever it's time for an 8-man Trial (why Azem needed such a tool in a perfect peaceful world? Why does flying even exist in this game? The zones (post-HW) are entirely 1-dimensional, with zero verticality, zero subregions that require flight to reach, no daily quests or anything that utilize flight (WoW did this ever since TBC with dailies where you had to fly around, sometimes do shit like throw bombs from your mount down at enemies below). Literally NOTHING in this game justifies flight in any way, shape or form.

Same with swimming ,what the fuck have they done with that since they introduced it in Stormblood? We got ONE (1) zone that was mostly water where you could swim and even dive underwater, but since then the devs have barely utilized swimming at all.

Sort of related, but I had an idea once for some expansion where the Scions are the rolequest NPCs, specifically they're trying to learn a new field or improve in one, and you're basically helping peer review and evcen mentor them. It'd come with lots of characterization interactions, downtime moments, but also cement the idea of the WoL not being just a coworker, a tool, or what not, but an equal and friend whom they value for their mind and guidance too. Some of the ideas I had were:

I actually remember you bringing this up way back. I remember liking the idea, with the main concern being whether it'd feel less of a role and more of a job quest. I think having it be a more vague 'Style of combat I want to try picking up/improving on' instead of 'I want to be this Job' would improve the concept. Essentially stay away from directly saying any job, instead hint towards it and focus more on the role.
