2 hours later it wares off and nothing exciting is getting introduced, also the pacing will be terrible, the adventure will feel that its making less sense and it will be overwhelming to look at and decide where to go.
By properly spacing out levels you encourage progression, it feels like you are passing biomes and areas which gives a sense of a better adventure and it keeps the excitement of whats to come there, its the superior design.
Open world is one of the worst things that happened to RPGs, open world is good but only in action/adventure games.
