What's next for Larian Studios? What do you want? Divinity: Original Sin 3 with Baldur's Gate 3 production values?

I'm hoping for a scifi game, and failing that, a new IP. I love DOS, but want to see them try something new with their BG3 bux.

Divinity original sin 3. I'd like to see the magic/physical shield angle done away with in its intensity but I did like the way it did magic more than BG3 (Which was either "You used two spells now you have to take a short rest or be really low quality" at low levels or overpowered at high levels), while I liked BG3's less insane levels of environmental combat (yes the oil derrick from DO2).

>>714123756
They spent all their time on act 1 and 2. I actually liked act 4 so I am not sure why people rag on it, but you can tell what got the focus. BG3 was the same way.

I really want a Horror CRPG like Call of Cthulhu but Larian goofy style probably works against it, so for Larian its either sci-fi or fantasy.

I don't mind looking at their next Sci-fi CRPG but i don't think its going to be as cool as a Fantasy Crpg from a gameplay perspective.

Would be interested to see if instead of 3 acts, with 3 maps, they try to make a single giant world map with the same level of depth/interaction as the way they've done OS1/2/BG3. One thing I hate how its worked so far is you don't get to see how quests impact the areas/characters unless they also have a reason to go forward in the world.

Sometimes works in BG3, othertimes feels pointless. Similar to choices in say Witcher 3, vs Witcher 1 where being in the same area you see as each chapter goes forward you can see the result of your choice.

Its not limited, its just that most of the devs are unskilled uninspired trash who chase trends or stick to the classic old book.

For the Zoomzooms and Alphas here, you must know โ€” Pathfinder is an abberation. It is not just a horrible system, it's a RIPOFF of a horrible system, with no positive things to say for it.
The only people who liked PF were grognards who hated DnD 4e so much they cut off their own noses to spite it.
If you ever sit and wonder why people say "WOW, Wrath of the Righteous is SO much better than Divinity Original Sin/BG3," despite their game being a miniscule upgrade over Neverwinter Nights 1 in appearance (and nothing else), it will serve you well to remember the mindbroken grognards and the poor pseuds who were brainwashed by them that prop it up

We need progression to keep the pacing spicy, if you give the player a giant big ass map they will look and say Woahh
2 hours later it wares off and nothing exciting is getting introduced, also the pacing will be terrible, the adventure will feel that its making less sense and it will be overwhelming to look at and decide where to go.

By properly spacing out levels you encourage progression, it feels like you are passing biomes and areas which gives a sense of a better adventure and it keeps the excitement of whats to come there, its the superior design.

Open world is one of the worst things that happened to RPGs, open world is good but only in action/adventure games.

Whatever it is my main hope, which I know they wont grant, is that they stop with the origin system. Having to account for (and locking content behind) multiple special npcs characters that could be the player I think is a huge detriment to the game. It also incentivizes you to not create a custom character if you want to see as much unique content in the game as possible

Darkurge was originally going to be the only version of the custom character, they decided to split it later since players didnt like how you could fail a willsave and lose control of the character. Something I to a extent agree with.
Darkurge is a middleground for sure I just fully believe the negatives of origin characters far outweigh positives.

>I really want a Horror CRPG like Call of Cthulhu but Larian goofy style probably works against it
I would've thought so too but BG3 was darker than the DoS games so they might be able to pull it off. Admittedly BG has been historically silly so they had an outlet for it, and your horror investigation might lose some impact if you overhear cultists complaining about scraping cum out of the interracial breeding pits but they might be able to swing it

I'd say a bigger potential knock against a horror RPG from Larian would be horror RPGs should make combat a side activity at most, while Larian games make the combat front and center

lol
Murderhobo is supposed to be a joke about shitty RP.

I understand why they wanted to have all their PC's have a story hook, but they needed to let you reroll other parts. Shadowheart doesn't need to be a half-elf or even a cleric, for example. You just might miss your option to have druid or paladin story characters naturally.

Darkspawn is just a continuation of the Bhaalspawn pcs from the first two baldurs gate games, its not a riff on murderhobos. And my point is still that they shouldnt have multiple PCs at all. Companions should have fully developed companion plotlines, PCs should be designed to be PCs.

That's the lindy solution to this problem.

My point is just that they were going to give you a single customizable PC... who is bound to fail a roll and be the murderhobo, regardless of the story justification.

What are you talking about? We had Divinity original sin 3 its called Baldur Gate 3, its amazing how blabant this game is a ripoff of DOS2

>Prologue starts with the 6 heroes imprisonned and put something into them they have to get rid of
>Act 1 starts with catastrophe allows them to free themselves from their jailer and the team being stuck in some kind of camp
>Gameplay is the copy paste of Divinity games

I didnt even finish that shit and with how ugly the graphics were and the dumpster of wokism this game is, i hope Larian fails and burns to the ground

Sounds like a recipe for success. Although since Swen said he got excited reading about Spelljammer when he was doing research for BG3, and since DoS2 has a magical dimension sailing ship, I wouldn't be surprised if we get a spelljammer-themed DoS3 since Larian's always shown they love to just completely change their own setting on a whim and say it's set 10 million years in the future or something

Hopefully its a new IP. A Sci-fi game would be terrible for me. DOS3 would be a disaster. Main issue right now is that Larian is too big, so anything they make will be bloated and unfinished(like dos2 was on release and bg3 still is).

I don't think so? It's difficult to create suitable mechanics for what CoC is trying to present. Even the TTRPG suffers from this. We've seen like a dozen attempts as CoC-esque games, and none have been remarkably successful (in both critical and commercial terms).

I honestly do too. They're a great excuse for changes in locale, they're a great money sink for the party by upgrading it, they could even allow crewmember romances rather than just main companions. Even as fucked as it was, consider something like the Deadfire system only give the NPC crewmates some flavor so they have SOME meaning beyond just stats. Even something like Mass Effect is nice because even if you have minimal control over the ship parts, it's still really damn nice to stroll along and chat with whatever NPCs you feel like. It gives you a good window to decompress and take it easy after questing and combat
