you should unlock all of them right away. The only ones that might be worth putting off are the combat classes since you really only need 1 of the 4, and while some are better than others it doesn't really matter much. You can skip the tutorial quest when it asks you too since you'll never see any of these characters again anyways.

attacking automatically changes you to your last used combat life. Non-combat lifes can't fight at all. You can change life manually in the life menu, but other than changing to a different combat job all of the other life changing is automatic.

get one combat and all gathering lives at the very least. you can get the crafters early as well but i just used the crafting tools dropped by crowned enemies early game desu. paladin parries against the napdragon in the capital boosted me hard.

I always wonder how much did the dlc improve the first game? I stopped before the DLC even dropped since I bought it day 1. I hope I dont end up doing the same thing again
I still login everyday for recipe RNG and flower, but there's really only so much you can do. I already built my island, 7'd 80% of Gino, have 3x light/dark damage wands, swords, and greatswords. I even crafted True Time for every crafting job. Maybe I'll go back to souping up all the buddies after I'm done with crafting all the new stuff in Milds.
I have put it down for a bit after getting about 3-4 Hero classes. The material grind is insane, and rerolling sapling dungeons for power ups blows. I went though like 30 saplings before a single power up showed up for a strangeling, and it's not even a good one.

If you search for altars like >>714145317 said, there's also a good chance you can run into a room precleared and all you have to do is bury your item. I did that a while back too when I was rerolling my weapons and tools.

I'm mostly doing soup runs and occasional aging to also lvl up all buddies, I don't think I have the energy to rank 7 all Ginorm, kind of lost interest in the place after making every True recipe.
