I recently played IV for the first time and I thought the cops constantly ramming against you was annoying as shit, especially with the clunkier driving.

Yes, clunkier. Cars feel extremely heavy and take a very long time to brake and accelerate so getting rammed off the road is a massive pain in the ass.
Maybe if all GTA games before V was like this you'd have an argument, but no, IV is the odd one out.

Lmfao, exactly how I felt. Give me the arcade feel of the PS2 titles any day. Your characters and cars are fast, responsive, and most importantly fun. Nu-Rockstar and their obsession with realism makes the simplest tasks like running around and jumping - movement in general - such a painfully slow, boring slog. I'm convinced people who fawn over IV's driving physics are under 16 because nobody who has ever actually driven a car in their life would ever say something so retarded

And that's to say nothing of IV's mind-numbingly repetitive and dull missions. I never played V but I really doubt its missions could have been worse than IV's. I see a lot of folk swear by the story and main character but I made it halfway before dropping and couldn't have cared less about either, both of which I've totally forgotten about since. Mute Claude had a far more lasting impression on me than Niko.

Yes, this is peak gameplay design.
The cops shouldn't have to use actual tactics like pitting and boxing in to be able to hinder your traversal.
If they can't glitch the wheels, how are they supposed to stop the heavier cars?
If they can't rubberband to you, how are they supposed to stop the supercars?

GTAIV is fine outside of 90% of the missions being "drive here and kill some gangbangers". I personally don't like how mob heavy the last third of the game is but the first act is kino. Anyone complaining about the driving either hasn't played the game or hasn't played it enough, you learn pretty quickly how to actually handle the vehicles and from that point on, they handle fine, especially if you seek out the easier to drive cars
