I think my NES probably froze up less than my Genesis, but both were fucking terrible. I remember a lot of times I'd be an hour into a game only for it to freeze with ear raping audio.
Gaming back in the day wasn't great. Pre Win95 also sucked hot dogshit. Even in the mid 2000s things fucking sucked. I had to disable all AV and disconnect from the internet to play Morrowind without issue and even then saving often was a must because it was unstable.

I feel like video games around 1986 really hit a breakthrough all around. That's when they started feeling like actual games instead of moving a little pixel guy around aimlessly with no real objective other than getting a high score. Even Mario 1 feels very basic and suddenly out comes games like Zelda and Metroid which hold up really well.

All I can think about these days when thinking about the NES is how in Japan with the Famicom that Hudson dominated the school kid opinion so well that they made the PC Engine and won that Gen in Japan.
Games like Adventure Island, Lode Runner, Tengai Makiyo, Bomberman, Challenger, Star Force, Milon's Secret Castle, Momotaro Densetsu, etc. All seems to have dominated the conversation among school kids in Japan (key words) more than Zelda or Mario did.

Hell, they used to make fan videos to promote their stuff and make full on movies featuring Hudson characters.
https://youtu.be/6gO26uFuahs?si=_9DDXdFGzaHZoT7f
And even had fan fests and tournaments. Then it all came crumbling down when their followups after the PC Engine died and they merged with Konami who's done jack shit with them. Relic now of the Heisei Era.

I don't understand why it's "silly". I have searched high and low, no flesh and blood person within a reasonable distance wants to come over and play video games from the 80's. They all just want to play "Fortnite" over "Discord". The computers however, they're down for anything.

The NES is the ultimate test on whether you're a true gamer. If you don't like the NES, then you don't like video games, period.

Original LoZ would have been more tolerable if Link controlled as in the gameboy games, his movement like he has a stick up his ass sucks

I played The Legend of Zelda this May and it's an excellent game. I can understand zoomers not appreciating the idea of having to take notes and drawing your own maps and plans, of course.
