You just get the impression that SEGA doesn't have nearly as much money to spend as something like Nintendo, and it makes sense when even their "popular" franchises only sell around 3-4 million per hit and Sonic is even bigger than Yakuza now. Frontiers was a fluke that made them decide to make Sonic "Global" it says on their website. That led to Shadow Generations and Sonic Racing Crossworlds, and Shadow Gens only sold 1.5m around the launch window. It really isn't a lot at the end of the day, and Sonic Superstars was also a flop.
Just recently they announced that Switch 2 ports have sold under their lowest sales estimates, so it isn't looking great for Sonic or just Sega in general. He's more popular than he's been in a while, but the popularity isn't growing.
