The most I've paid for a gaming laptop was 400€, back in 2012. It served me for 5 years, after which I sold it to a literal Overwatch kid for like 150 bucks.

I just got a bit older, 2nd hand Acer Nitro for 150, all because it got a "broken display". Got a replacement screen for 50 dollars from China, and paid my local computer repair store another 50 to swap it.

Legion are the best laptops but it's better if you hook them up to a monitor because their screens are never the best. Even if they are like 200hz they are still laggy, blurry and there's tons of light bleed. Awful viewing angle too. Also their airflow comes from the bottom, so it is a good idea to lift them up a little from the back, so more air can pour in.

Gaming laptops last 1 year at most in terms of being able to play games adequately, they quickly lose all performance value. It's a waste of money.

I bought a lenovo laptop 4 years ago and in that time I have spilled coffee on it several times and dropped it on the floor several times and I blew an inductor in it when changing ram as a spark went off and set it on fire and it melted and its still works fine right now. Bought a legion 5 in 2025.
I took it on travels and trips, on friends houses, on jobs, at my gf house.
Had a lot of fun and did a lot of stuff on it, probably games for thousands of hours. Still seems to have a lot life left and works great.
Would buy again. The only problem is that you are pretty much locked in 1080p 60fps.
Of course a desktop will have better performance but some people just need to be able to move around.
Those fake and gay handlehelds are out of the question for me, they are essentially just a laptop but in a worst form
