All the Souls games were great while vidyas felt like they were dying, but in the end they're basically just modern games made with the same philosophy devs had developing NES titles. In that "delayed history" sense, I consider FromSoft games to ultimately be forgettable and slop, and I could've easily gone without even Demon's Souls or Dark Souls to start with.
Mario and Zelda, and Nintendo's sheer variety, and the way it inspired other developers to make even greater games, and always showing new ways to make games when other publishers were doubling down on conveyor-belt approach, is more valuable.
I kill Miyazaki before he kills himself first. Seems to be going that way with Nightrein and Duskbloods anyway. They're just a corporate shell making Fortnite and Tarkov clones now, complete sellouts. Nintendo are also sellouts ever since Breath of the Wild happened, but at least Nintendo still takes a "trend" and does something unexpected with it. Mario Kart World is also just Forza Horizon, but they added all these cool wall riding, rail grinding, and an unconventional approach to Open World that doesn't take over the experience badly like in Burnout Paradise or Forza.
I don't understand how you can't give Nintendo that. They still have some slight sense of "Magic". Couldn't even be bothered to play Nightreign when it's so obviously just an Elden Ring reskin with Fortnite gameplay.
