I was 7 years old when I got Pearl and the only time I got lost was wandering around between Pastoria and that one mountainous beach town next to it that isn't a real town wondering what the fuck I was supposed to be doing. Turns out they kind of just expect you to remember that there was a herd of psyducks blocking your way to the north and you need to meet Cynthia there.
I got stuck here while playing it as an adult too incidentally, though at least I could just turn and google it. When I was a kid I thought it was because I had to find surf somewhere (RBY and FRLG were my primary exposure to the series before this so given the precedence) so I wandered around for literal days while my friend insisted I need to get a rhydon so it can learn surf through level up (it doesn't learn surf through level up)
Mt coronet was cool though, never had a problem with it

People didnt get lost in Mt. Coronet, the problem was that they couldn't find out they had to backtrack to find the way to get up there

It's easy to get lost when a battle triggers every 1-3 steps. You lose your train of thought.
