Americans don't pass down institutional knowledge, and certainly don't tolerate home-grown innovation. They rely almost exclusively on immigrant/outsider-driven paradigm shifts to kick the can on cultural degradation. I mentioned this years and years ago and I got a single 'if only you knew how bad it really is'. Gaming doesn't pull in the good coders anymore, they can do better in law, banking, cryptoscamming, web ads, etc., almost anywhere. Publishers also burn out devs fast, then fire almost everybody once a game is complete. The good few programmers quit or were too busy being whipped for productivity to pass on their tricks. Most devs these days are horribly inexperienced but wanted so badly to 'work in games' they gave up a lot of standards doing so.

It's even deeper than that, man. The constant architecture changes that pushed devs towards multiplat engines, even more than just not being able to code close to the metal. Which they also can't do because none of the methods for handling that kind of complexity ever made it to universities. And workers are too poor and desperate to take the time to explore that stuff on their own. Outsourcing instead of hiring homegrown coloreds also removed the organic tribalistic tit-for-tat competition that drove the sophistication of say (again) music. You don't have Elvis pushing James Brown pushing the Beatles pushing Motown/Disco pushing metal pushing hip-hop pushing Eminem pushing the current crop. It's just white dude SWEs bitching about incompetent Indians an ocean away who don't care because they're making 10x the median income of their home village spitting out spaghetti scripts for UE4.
