There are motherboard and CPU hardware limit for installing Windows 11. That means processors from before 2018 can't really run it. This is because Windows 11's primary hardware security (Core Isolation) and motherboard TPM need exist physically. Third worlders who run GTX 970s and other 11 year old PC components while PC platform warring are automatically eliminated from going up to Windows 11. Virtualization (Called SVM on AMD) also needs to be enabled in the BIOS as it's defaulted to Off but once again the turd world of Eastern Europe, Indian, South America, Southeast Asia finds the BIOS menu very scary to navigate.

Virtualization in of itself is a performance eater but modern CPUs can enable it without any performance loss sorta like FrameGen on older GPUs eat into performance if they don't have the overhead. FrameGen and FSR don't work properly if you run out of VRAM. Anyway older CPUs incur a notable gaming performance drop which is one of the reasons Windows 11 support was dropped. People would be complaining about Windows 11 slowing down their gaming performance because of virtualization running in the background.

>I actually can't tell the difference between 11 and 10.
Then you're blind and tech-illiterate.
11 is indeed just EVEN WORSE Wee 10, but the changes are just extra Gestapo tier:

>cannot move nor resize Task Bar
>R-click menu has a SEPARATED menu for the default functions people actually use
>ReCall AI records EVERYTHING you do in a searchable form
>Mandatory updates and upgrades still a thing, still breaking shit every single time
>Install size and spec requirements are 4 times higher than that of Wee 10s, which itself required twice more storage space and better specs than Win7, which uses the same code base.
>Pushes the Windows Store cancer and ads in the OS frontrow center, clearly trying to form an Apple-style locked ecosystem.
>Still does not allow changing the default web browser as smoothly as ALL past Windows versions.

The problem with a business model built on forcing OEMs to buy your new OS no matter what, and in which users have no say, is that there is no reason to ever respond to the needs or desires of users.
Microsoft's only incentive is to do the bare minimum to maintain control over OEMs and keep any other OSes from being pre-installed.

Microsoft doesn't see users as a market they need to serve. Rather they are a resource to be mined in order to increase shareholder value.

>proton work well enough for most games?
It is as good as, or superior to the compatibility layer that NT uses to run win32 games. The main "issue" is it blocks games that load NT Kernel Malware. Unlike Windows, most OSes view attempting to install a Rootkit as a major security issue.

>Is Nvidia still shit on Linux?
Only compared to AMD because of the Linux exclusive drivers, and because old Nvidia hardware isn't great at Vulkan.
Just saw Nvidia is discontinuing support for their pre-RTX hardware. So it isn't a bad time to upgrade if you're still on an old card.

just make sure you use an OS that's either rolling, like OpenSUSE or Arch, or start out with a distro that keeps their proprietary drivers up-to-date, like Ubuntu, but you'll have to run major updates within a 9-month window or risk having to perform a full re-install

No, I use Win10 (IOT LTSC Enterprise edition 2021) because I need some very specific programs to do my JOB.

I was on Windows 7, the best operating system ever made, up until late last year, and would still use it had Microcock not butchered the apps we use by essentially removing Win7 compatibility and even cockblocking installation attempts.

For anything else, I could've already managed just fine with Linux ~5 years ago.

Microsoft's competition is walled garden Apple which will never let their OS be on anything but their own devices, and a billion fragmented Linux distros that no normalfags wants to deal with. Windows lived through Vista and 8 while holding onto their overwhelming monopoly, they have no incentive to ever try. They'll keep pushing services and data harvesters harder every year, with the only opponent being government intervention.

Just like 7, people will effectively be forced to move from 10 as it's abandoned, even if it takes another decade. And just like 10fags, they'll gaslight themselves into the mentality of 'well at least it's not as bad as the newest version of Windows', despite it being only marginally less fucked. And the cycle will continue forever

Not entirely true. There are a few corporate backed Linux distributions that tower above the others, and Microsoft's monopoly has been shrinking. Mostly because more Linux distributions come pre-installed on hardware that wouldn't work well with Windows. SteamOS is the most recent one, and the first you might want to run on a Gaming PC.
The big problem in the desktop space is that because Microsoft maintains such tight control over the OEMs desktop systems, and because almost no users install their own OS, there is no room for anything to gain market share within that segment.
Which is why all the Linux distributions that have caught on were aimed at growing non-traditional computing device segments.

Realistically how bad is it really to stay on a Windows OS after Microjew stops security updates?

kinda, the joke is many people look at the retarded average consumer and think they will just swap to windows 11 without even thinking about it.
In fact normally they just end up dropping pc use entirely and go phone only if hassled too much right now. Windows lost 400 million devices and mac shit continues to show trends of decline with no change.
>https://www.tomshardware.com/software/windows/windows-seemingly-lost-400-million-users-in-the-past-three-years-official-microsoft-statements-show-hints-of-a-shrinking-user-base

So while linux is making gains, windows and microsoft will take the worst and monumental blow from smartphones.

Your computer will explode the next day and someone is going to kick your dog at night.

That aside, nothing will happen, lacking security updates won't do much to any users with common sense that knows not to download sketchy shit.

Depends on the exploits discovered and if you do something that makes you vulnerable to those exploits
In any case you can use MAS to activate ESU for security updates until 2028 on every edition except Home (you can also use MAS to easily switch editions)
Or install W10 IoT LTSC 2021 and also activate with MAS for security updates until 2032
If you have any question about this kind of stuff the Windows thread on /g/ has resources and Anons who will help you

Works for almost all games that don't have a kernel-level anti-cheat. And only a few games which have kernel-level anti-cheat support Linux.
But apparently Windows is removing their AV from the Windows kernel, which could mean that they kick out 3rd party software from the kernel too. So it's possible that in a few months Microsoft will solve the anti-cheat problem on Linux by also having it on Windows.

>Is Nvidia still shit on Linux?
Generally yes. Not in terms of performance, but convenience.
