Is it legal for edgeworth to do what he did in the first game?

Where he presented "illegal" evidence, and then when told that wasn't allowed, he just said "yes, this evidence is technically inadmissable, but it is now burned in the minds of the jury and judge and removing the evidence won't change that"

He's right though. Does a lawyer get fired for that?

A mistrial doesn't necessarily mean that everyone just throws up their arms and goes home. The prosecution can request another trial, although in the situation we're describing they may be denied if they were the ones who caused the mistrial via gross misconduct.

Ace Attorney logic is especially funny because there's a case or two where you prove that your client couldn't have POSSIBLY done it but you gotta continue anyway because fuck you. 2-1 even confirms that a trial COULD end with no person being found guilty despite a guilty party having to exist, but this literally never actually happens because, again, fuck you. Well 5-4 kinda ended like that I think.

The part about the gigantic crimewave was just in AA1. Later games don't acknowledge it at all, it's simply how the law works in that world. Even in different countries (Khura'in) and eras (TGAA) that's how it goes.

As someone who graduated law school last year, I don't know why so many anons are acting like this is ridiculous. Usually evidence gets presented to the judge before the trial and that's when he determines what's admissible and what's not. That's like, his job. And yes, they can definitely get influenced by evidence that's not legal even if they won't admit it in the final verdict. People just don't say these things out loud though

I'd say considering DGS and AAI2 got brought over is proof that the series is due for a new game, but it won't be AA7 in its original form, whatever that is.

>>714211060
Poor Apollo suffers from being overshadowed by Phoenix from the first 5 minutes and never really escapes his shadow, hell every new character feels like they are just copy/pasting tropes from the older games but without any sauce, even counting the first game.
Ema is the biggest example here, her game 1 counterpart, Gumshoe has a fully fleshed out character arc just in the first game alone, Ema doesn't. So yeah, you have a new cast that are shallow imitations of the old cast but without any of the growth or vulnerability.
These still aren't bad games but fuck me, these are not as good as the original trilogy as a whole.

I think Takumi had an idea for him in AA4. Originally he wanted it to be a fresh start, and Phoenix wasn't even in the game, although a different, new character with the same role was. Capcom insisted Phoenix was in the game and Takumi changed the character into Phoenix. Then people got mad both because of what happened to Phoenix and also because he wasn't the MC anymore. After that Takumi went to work on different stuff and the person they got to take over as writer and director tried to course correct as hard as possible. and made Phoenix the MC again while Apollo became the designated backstory guy for two games in a row. I still think 4 is a cut above 5 and 6 in terms of character writing and the overall setup, and Apollo's story was clearly just getting started at the end. There's no way to say at this point how Apollo as a character would have ended up if Takumi had continued to write the main series, but I think it's safe to say it would've been a lot more consistent and very different than what we got.

If you want my take, I rather would've had a good stand alone, than sequel baiting, more so when it's unclear that you are going to be involved with making the next thing, what happened with 4 is basically "What if DGS2 didn't exist to support DGS1", while DGS1 would still be...alright? it would feel a lot more incomplete, and that's what AA4 feels like.
Lord knows we will never know WHY we couldn't just tell Apollo he's a magic baby and that Trucy is related to him, i believe that will remain one of the biggest question marks in the series history.
Overcorrecting did happen but if you were asking my dumbass in 2013, which DD came out, I would not have wanted another Apollo game, so it's hard to say if putting Phoenix back in fully this was the right decision or not for the series future.
It's been so long since 2008 that I think a lot of people either forgot or just weren't there for how divisive 4 was back then.

Nah I definitely agree. At the time I also thought DD was exactly what I wanted, even though I consider it an overcorrection nowadays. What's done is done, though, and now I just want a fresh start for the series akin to DGS, and it would probably be a good idea to make it self contained like you said. I also want Takumi to be the one to do it, though. DD and SoJ are okay I guess, with a few standout cases, but overall they can't match the level of charm Takumi is able to infuse his characters with. Even the silly characters become endearing instead of annoying (except Soseki in DGS who I found kinda obnoxious).

At least with Polly, the judge actually gave reasons.
Having multiple coincidences IS a pattern and it flies in the face of the witness supposedly being so far gone that he can't even remember who he is. So he dragged the witness back to the stand and told him to stop fucking around. In nicer words of course.

Yeah I don't consider DD or SoJ bad but I'd be hard pressed to consider them as good as Investigations or DGS/GAA.
a fresh start is what is needed for the series, a real one, or just give us an Athena game without Phoenix or Apollo, that's basically the same thing anyways, after playing around with some indies I've realized a new cast of goobers is what is needed, ideally ones that aren't carbon copies, GAA has shown this is possible.

it would've really helped if his backstory was more involved in the greater plot of 4, that way they would've been forced to stick with it rather than add on new silly ideas just to give him a reason to exist in the narrative, as far as the original 4 is concerned, his magic story is only there to justify the game's latest gimmick.
It'd be like case 2 of JfA had nothing to do with the Feys but you got the Magatama anyways from Maya.
The crazy thing is AJ is about the entire magic circus family, but since Apollo doesn't know he's connected, it doesn't involve him on anywhere near the same level as something like "Phoenix is childhood friends with Edgeworth"

I wonder how many people did save+restart and not get the answer in the first try. Because the indication that you got it right isn't revealed till after Godot's rant "you'll never be her".
God, this was just the best trilogy marathon of my life. Especially when pirating the JP release which had the EN localization a month before US release. (I did buy them all, I was like the only one that got AA4/AAI when it delivered to the GameStop. Back when "release day" to them meant "shipping day" lol)

yeah it was, granted Apollo not being able to read is also a thing in 4-2 in general since he fails to notice that the WAA is infact, the WAA until Trucy tells him to double check the name plate. it's a good joke tho.
