Death Stranding 2 makes me feel stupid for ever having enjoyed Death Stranding 1 (not Director's Cut) for its gameplay. It's clear that Kojima himself views the hiking, planning routes and managing cargo as nothing more than tedium or an annoyance that should be trivialised and/or optimised out of the game by way of overpowered gadgets. This was already evident in DS1DC where I assume due to lukewarm reception, he pussied out and added a bunch of overpowered gadgets like the jetpack super jump thing, and a highway leading up to weather station so you don't have to deal with the "pesky" gameplay anymore.
As if DS2 wasn't already vehicle centric enough (I'm pretty sure there is nowhere on the map that is not easily accessed by vehicles, even without any roads), he even gives you pic related halfway through the game which completely trivialises everything and makes ziplines look like a joke by comparison. Either Kojima really thinks like that, or his game design is informed by incredible insecurity. I mean BTs are basically a complete non factor in this game too. No matter where you encounter them, you can always just drive around them. Or just shoot them because they die in one shotgun shell and no other enemies aggro. Same with MULE camps, in Death Stranding 1 they'd constantly ping your cargo to keep you on the move, but that seems to be completely missing from the game so far. Also doesn't matter how loud your gun is because as long as you take out a bandit instantly, everyone else will act like they heard nothing. Also, the zones of the chiral network are set up in a way this time around that literally all critical infrastructure you'd need has already been set up before you even get a chance to do so yourself. I had to cross a river using a ladder a total of 1 time if we ignore the prologue.
It's like MGSV where at the start, lethal/non-lethal require different approaches and then halfway through he gives you a silenced non-lethal sniper and ruins it.

power progression is not supposed to trivialise a game. if it does, then it'd shit. not to mention that progression systems are outright garbage to begin with.

Kojima doesnm't design gameplay. He creamed his pants when a developer showed him the weapon modification system in MGSV and talked about it in an interview. You don't even know whose cock you're sucking. That's how big of a faggot you are.

This just goes to show Kojima’s success is a total fluke. The guy has no idea why the stuff he makes is successful or popular.

It's clear at this point that he just wants to make movies and is 100% on board with "streamlining" the gameplay to the point that you don't really have to engage with it at all to get to the next cutscene.

I mean, the majority of people whined about the gameplay being bad, so it can't have been the reason, even though for me personally that's the part I enjoyed most.

If he wants to make movies then why does fuck all happen in this goddamn game for the first 30 hours after the opening? Literally nothing of note happens until chapter 9, until then it's short 2 minute cut scenes of Tomorrow's void of a personality being observed by Rainy and Fragile.

Thanks for the info, I loved DS1 and was on the fence about DS2 but I probably won't buy it. I enjoyed the hiking so much in DS1 that I even wanted more scarcity with vehicles, bridges and stuff. It was fun having a loadout of ladders, ropes etc and travel exactly how you want. Once you upgraded your suit, built a few ziplines, saw stuff that other players had built and stuff, it was so rewarding. It was also rewarding reaching your goal after a long treacherous hike. Every delivery felt like "a story I'll tell my grandkids"-style if that makes sense

It’s actually wild how long he’s been coasting on vibes and memes. People still act like “he predicted the future” every time a shipping drone is in the news. Nevermind that the guy’s idea of emotional storytelling is staring into a camera while monologuing about extinction for ten minutes. At least Inafune flopped quick and loud-Kojima’s just slow-burning his legacy into irrelevance.

I wish he would have doubled down on making it a full on hiking struggle simulator with combat. OP is correct, the vehicles and tools you have at your disposal completely trivializes the game early on. I only put down 1 ladder in my entire play through and that was as the very beginning. There’s also almost always a secondary vehicle route already carved out between obstacles. You have all of these cool hiking mechanics that go completely to the wayside when you unlock the first bike which happens within the first hour or two into the game and if you lose it you can just easily fabricate another one within seconds.

There are no more long treacherous hikes not unless you purposely challenge yourself but there’s no real reason. I’m playing on brutal and it’s piss easy and I’m not one of those GIT GUD sweaty faggots. I’m also contemplating replaying with online features off because of the amount of player made structures already littering the map. There’s no need to build any structures whatsoever since everyone farms likes and you’re never more than a few feet away from a charger or time fall shelter.

I have 21k bandwidth and used a total of 550 because all critical infrastructure has already been built by others. everything I would build is already there before I even arrive.

This was my most hyped game for awhile now and I’m disappointed. I’m not even shitposting…I have a ps5. Pc bros heed the warning…it’s not nearly as good as the first game and the only reason why it’s reviewing higher is because it was built for brain dead journalist.

anytime this game was shown it was never ever concentrated on show casing the actual gameplay.
it was obvious from its inception that it was going to be even more of a movie game than the first.
the story and dialogue is not even good. its just kojima fart sniffing kojima’s fart.

progression systems have caused terminal brainrot in people where they now think it's appropriate for a game to get less challenging as you progress instead of more challenging.

And before you say the first game did too you have to realize that the terrain was much more unforgiving in DS1 and there were times where you couldn’t get vehicle thru easily. DS2 almost always has a secondary vehicle route at any difficult spot.
