Sky's the limit if you're knowledgeable and have the time, there's nothing stopping someone from commanding 5000 player armies and ruling the galaxy. In practice though, most people find a niche, play for a while, then burn out.
I came back in 2020, built a corporation that held about 1/3 of a region in nullsec, then dropped it in 2024 because of the direction the game was going. It was really rewarding and something very few people would do, but now I just want those five years of my life back.

I like it, I recently jumped back in and I'm a wormhole explorer
I don't participate in PvE or PvP, I just love scanning down anomalies and hacking sites and plundering loot for my little wormhole guild/corporation
In return they give me nice upgrades and new ships to explore better with and I'm happy
