>>714255795Have the facilities actually be useful and relevant to gameplay not just the story. Like make them have their own teleporter network, better automated crafters, generate resources, etc... Like maybe tie this into base building so your goal is to hook up a bunch of bases into a network to reactivate all the facilities.
Honestly maybe even just split the game up into multiple maps with fast travel between them, the back and forth is nightmarish and the seatruck doesn't help at all.
Make the game deeper and darker in more open water and not just cramped tunnels full of glowing giant crystals. None of the monsters have ever been as threatening as just the empty water, that's what makes the shelf edge scary, not the big awkward glowy snakes. There's lots of cool unexplored ideas like travelling along the floor to get between high spots, "whale falls" in the open sea full of weird creepy bugs, etc...
Like the real ocean isn't jam packed with giant carniverous electric snakes but it's damn fucking scary anyway because the water itself is the biggest threat.
