>>714289794Xbox as a brand is so unusual and I can't even entirely blame them for it since they entered at a late point in time, but it's very synthetic. Nobody associated with Microsoft (outside of maybe Bungie) had any real passion for gaming. Powerful gaming companies are made by weird nerds who are in-touch with the people they are selling products to.
Their lack of ability (or desire??) to set up powerful in-house studios is strange and sad for a company as rich as Microsoft was and still is.
Their lack of IP is somewhat understandable because of their entry point into the industry but they have nothing but Halo and Gears and Halo sucks ass and Gears essentially ended. IP they do have like Banjo that covers a broader range of game-types other than FPS have necrosed into nothingness due to neglect, but to be fair they did try to launch these IPs again during the 2000's but the industry only wanted FPS and after Skyrim, Action WRPG and GTA-likes. What this means is that even if they did want to foster IP it was guaranteed to fail outside of those genres but the industry did eventually welcome other kinds of games back onto the market but those IPs were already dead by the time they could make them again.
Hell, even when they did focus on making their own IP or investing into studios they rushed their fucking games and they launched broken and sold no copies. Fucking why?
What was the best strategy for them after the Xbox 360? If I was head of Xbox I probably would've focused on getting better deals on FPS games and creating studios focused on making brodude games. They just don't have the same advantage as a company like Nintendo which established themselves back when gaming was a quick-moving beast.
