The former director of the movie is gay.
What happened is that they did a test screening of the much gayer full cut and asked the people watching to raise their hands if they were interested in seeing it at the movies. Nobody did.
In a panic Disney and Pixar asked to remove most of the gay stuff (imagine just how gay the full cut was) and the old director quit in response.

The issues around the switch 2 seem to be massively overblown by screechers yelling at clouds. For the audience it's intended for its perfectly fine, I get some of the backlash around the being able to be banned or even bricked but anyone who buys the thing is or should be aware of that possibility so clearly they wouldn't care in the first place if they bought it anyway.
