The places are amazing. There's always things to do. The people are also crazy if you're in the right neighborhood. Just go for a night out in Roppongi, Shibuya, or Shinjuku. A surprising amount of people wanted to just hang out with me to learn English. Unfortunately they were mostly salararymen and not cute girls, but it was still fun. It is very easy to get a date if you follow the JBW strategy. I went with a girl to an owl cafe in Harajuku and it was amazing. Also there's tons of anime bars in Akihabara where they just play anime songs all night and you can hang out with the weebs.
But 100% you need to speak SOME Japanese, because they do not speak English there at all.

Tell me you're just a tourist without telling me. The goods are cheaper relative to your western salary. The local salaries are in the toilet because of the constant out of control spending and rising debt. Locals are pissed that tourists are visiting their country because the high value of foreign currencies and what foreigners can throw around is pricing out locals from going to things like izakayas or going on vacations to different prefectures because they can't afford basic hotels now since said hotels are trying to court foreigners who can blow tens of thousands of yen like it's nothing because it isn't. You can literally see this in the rising prices of video games end electronics from Japanese stores getting higher and higher because of foreigners going to Japan to buy them or import them.

Japanese people live fairly poorly compared to western standards with regards to their housing and salaries, you're just blindsided by your love for Japan that you're not willing to look at the bad parts of living there.
Go look at how terrible their housing situation is. Unless you live in rural prefectures your house is going to be absurdly small with the kitchen and laundry room likely being the same room. You will also be paying close to NYC rent prices if you go to even the lower tier cities while living paycheck to paycheck unless you are fairly high in a corporate structure.
If you do live in a rural prefecture enjoy the horrendously humid summers and bone-chilling winters because Japanese homes are some of the worst for insulation.
Go look at how no one wants to live in the sticks because there's virtually no opportunities for work unless you want to be a farmer for the rest of your life.

Yes, you get better social programs and it's safer, but literally every other aspect of your life is objectively worse compared to living in basically any western country.

From my experiences of moving to a smaller town and doing a lot of volunteering, there's a lot of opportunity to have a sense of community if you actually appreciate what your town has. Whenever I see someone make a comment like this now I immediately start to question how they interact with where they live to even say this.
