I got 20 hours in and stopped playing. Last thing I remember is the quick sand area and seeing Zelda at the temple at the end and fighting a big black monster thing. Does it get good after that?

fucking zelda as a whole is overrated except OOT. everytime i play a zelda game I feel like not playing anything like that for a long while. it's either tedious or maliciously confusing, and it relies on the adventure/completionist/challenging aspects to make you play it, not because it's inherently fun.

It was fine, the story was one of the most enjoyable for Zelda. The temples were good, the bosses were good, but the bad parts were REALLY bad.

Best characters, solid soundtrack. Shit the bed in everything else.

I know people like the dungeon designs in this, but I personally still felt they simplified them too much.

It had good moments, but they were outweighed by dozens of baffling awful choices that completely destroyed the game. On the whole it was still worth a single playthrough for those highs at least, but it just annoys me what could have been.

I only played the Switch version, and I liked it. Groose is the best character.

it's got good dungeons and a few nice story bits, if you can get through the annoying shit it's ok.

Majora's Mask was pretty good too but they were even showing the signs there.
I'll admit every iteration of Zelda since OOT has just been riding its coat tails. Thats still better than 95% of games out there but never as good as OOT.

That isn't bad exactly because it stuck to a formula that wasn't being exploited elsewhere in the game business. That's how I remember Skyward Sword. It was the weakest Zelda in many ways, but in 2011 I was also playing Skyrim and shitty Assassins Creed sequels. It was REFRESHING to play a game that was nothing like those yet still expansive and really long (50 hours of almost constant variety compared to "Go here, do 20 more of those")
Then BotW comes out and now Zelda is exactly like everything that's already being done.

I've been defending it since the day it came out. The back tracking sections all significantly change up the area and have you doing completely different things. Even tadtones were fun to collect
