Perfect dark. The complexity of the multiplayer amd the programmable bots is still unmatched to this day.
Anonymous No.714310420 [Report]
Goldeneye was great for just boot it up and go but if you wanted the most kino experience you were setting up bots. We made a zombie mode where it was i thnk 8 bots set to only use fists and if they hit you it would disarm your current weapon and youd get a dizzy effect on your screen and youd hear the mob of npcs chopping because for some reason they just constantly chop the air until they hit something and it was such a good time.

Goldeneye shouldn't even be in the running, but I think it walked so perfect dark could run.

Goldeneye. Perfect dark perfected the gameplay but the alien shit and a lot of the levels were gay. Timesplitters is a non factor between the two. Goldeneye is overall more memorable and culturally relevant even if the gameplay style is perfected in PD and the graphics better

You're right, it had better gameplay. The sequel was arguably even better too. Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were baby shit with auto aim and dogshit controls (even for back in the day).

shooting is not the main thing in these games, it's about figuring out the objectives.
Anonymous No.714317274 [Report] >>714318416 >>714319557
>>714317102
Turok is about more than shooting too, there's a lot of pretty tight platforming and the maps are complex, finding all your key items and taking them to where they need to go is arguably a bigger part of Turok than the shooting itself is.

Perfect Dark has the best campaign and weapons
Timesplitters has the best minigames and multiplayer
Goldeneye is the most iconic
All are absolute classics
Gun to my head though and I'd definitely give it to Perfect Dark

whats there to debate

Perfect dark is better than goldeneye but the framerate is even worse, so are you talking about release or modern methods of playing it

Here's a debate. How do we stop people who never had an n64 from shilling timesplitters. It's just an ok kid friendly fps.

I completely believe you that finding things in a game where the fog starts 10 feet away takes most of your time

Goldeneye for frame rate, Perfect Dark for multiplayer, Time Splitters for levels.

Goldeneye is much better than Timesplitters. I thought the TS games are kinda mediocre honestly.

Still gotta play Perfect Dark. Btw I just saw the reboot got cancelled, does anyone even care?

Perfect Dark had a better story and campaign, but TS (especially 2) had way more charming characters and lighthearted nonsense. Joanna (visually) ain't got SHIT on this cast.

>does anyone even care
no lol
Everwild and Perfect Dark, the games MS cancelled today, were in development for like 7-8 years each with literally nothing to show for it, it's preposterous they weren't cancelled years ago. Either the developers were supremely incompetent, or Microsoft mismanaged them to an apathetic sluggish death. Both are probably true.
Perfect Dark's reveal trailer last year was also mostly just vapid FPS-ish garbage that was clearly hacked together from CGI and an idealised vertical slice. It didn't suggest anything that resembled the cool 90's techno spy vibe of the original, none of the same gameplay systems or open ended, intricate level design, gameplay objectives etc.
It looked like a generic mishmash of modern FPS trends with a cleaner colour palette and a manjawed girlboss hag of a Joanna Dark.
All the design philosophies that made those Rare/Free Radical FPS's fun are gone forever, only vaguely present in the scarce few 'immersive sims' that get released.

That's probably right. I tried one TS game so it would've been the first one. It was like playing an airsoft game where enemies play dead. Just wasn't interested from there. I would've never thought blood was necessary in any FPS, but it made me realize enemies dieing in the way your brain expects really matters.

Turok and South Park on N64 actually make me want to kill myself with how bad the controls are

It was better than having what was essentially tank controls with one stick unless you were one of the madmen who actually used 2 controllers.
Anonymous No.714322579 [Report] >>714323118
>>714322313
You don't have to use two controllers. Use the profile thats left dpad + right stick. It's basically modern FPS controls with digital movement.

What part are you laughing at? Joanna looks like the lady in line ahead of you at the supermarket (before they went off the deep end and lit her hair on fire for Zero).
If you're saying Timesplitters' campaign is better, I might be able to agree with that. It did a lot of cool stuff, it just didn't feel like a coherent story in 2, just disjointed nonsense.
Anonymous No.714323118 [Report]
>>714322579
Yeah, most FPS let you do this, and it made the N64 great for shooters compared to the PlayStation. Even using the PS ball mouse peripheral, I still prefer the N64's analog stick.

Timesplitters 2 any day of the week. I'll take a good shooter that's just a good shooter any day of the week over a bunch of imsim bullshit slapped together with lame action.

It's lame action in the first two, don't delude yourself. What was your favourite firefight, the one where you gunned down everyone as soon as they entered your field of view because the games are so slow and committed to realism that it can't mechanically handle aggressive enemies that don't immediately die?
That's stealth-action for you, always a shit genre combination, always has been.

Timespliters 2 for bot matches
Perfect Dark for single player

i think you have to unlock the option to double the bots by playing more of the combat simulator, which is also how it works in the original game IIRC.
