Its kind of crazy how much MGS2 Colonel AI resembles modern AI. He is convincing but just occasionally outputs a bunch of garbage that he thinks makes sense based on the inputs he got from past data in MGS1 and MG2.
Its exactly like modern AI systems. They make sense at a glance but if you push them they crap out and reveal how rubbish and unreliable they really are.
I find it kind of amazing because in 2001 they didn't really have any concept of AI did they? If they did it was a very niche topic that few people really knew about. But to accurately depict what modern AI would be like over 20 years later is quite something.

That's fair. I don't think Kojima was the only one ever thinking about AI in the past. Its just kind of cool that there were a very small amount of people in the past thinking about a concept that would only show itself decades later and be so relevant.

You don't read books, you don't consume media outside of vidya, you don't read philosophers, you don't know shit, you definitely can't affirm it was just "a very small amount of people". Concepts like Artificial Intelligence has existed for centuries, millennia even.

Kojima is psychic the way Simpsons writers were psychic. They look at where trends are going to take them to their logical conclusion.

The colonel wasn't meant to be realistic AI. He was just a parody of real life control freaks that overanalyze everything in their attempt to control what humans think and do. His obsession with "creating context" was basically the behavior of modern American left and neolibs, just fake BS nonsense that they repeat over and over until it's accepted as fact.

why are gamers like this? you are so insular and unwilling to just expand your scope outside the narrow bubble of video games. theres a whole world of film and literature out there thats centered around modern AI for well over half a century.

Nigga, Kojima is getting old. He has been making games for almost 40 years now. Just for the record to see how insanely long that is, Capcom just celebrated their 40 year anniversary two weeks or so ago, of course he's getting tired after 40 fucking years and that mf doesn’t even take a break, his staff was shocked that after he finished DS2 he already works on his next project while the rest of his team take a well deserved break

yes he only helped with the optional codec calls, story stuff was all by kojima as he confirmed multiple times in interviews but Kojima haters love to go with that fake narrative

i'm getting tired of repeating myself, Kojima made a game like Death Stranding just right before covid started, which is insane, you can't make this shit up

i dont see why its "insane". its a bit of a coincidence, sure, but the themes present in DS are something that has been omnipresent in art and literature for very long time. pretty sure there were novels are film/tv made around that time too that dealt with similar subjects. again, i like kojima, but what im not gonna jerk him off for repeating themes from time immemorial simply right before covid.

>I find it kind of amazing because in 2001 they didn't really have any concept of AI did they?
N-gram language modelling was around and had the same failure mode. Extrapolating from that isn't too much of a stretch.

I could surf on a hoverboard coffin while carrying a rescued koala on my back through a brushfire while shooting robots with samurai swords with my guitar gun in Death Stranding 2 so that was more than cool enough to satisfy me regardless of the significance or novelty of its literary themes.

It's ironic that he cites the year, 2001, without even considering the movie and book named after the year which revolve around a rogue AI and came out in the 60s. If you ever needed proof we are surrounded by morons here on /v/.

Sometimes I just want something excessive and over the top. No other game let me do that so I’m happy to have experienced something so weird.
