Games are art.
They are deep, complex, philosophical, and have the best narratives in all of media.
They are intellectual, and artful. A monument of human creativity and thought.
They rival and even overshadow films and literature due to their increased dimensionality and boundless ability to storytell.
I have never witnessed such a profound, deep, rich, and complex story such as Nier Automata. Subversion, existentialism, despair, hope, rebellion, religion, God, faith, depression, and humanity.
It broaden my horizons, made me think, and made me cry. This game is a masterpiece that stands alongside the giants, if not even above them. Apex peak.

Subversion, existentialism, despair, hope, rebellion, religion, God, faith, depression, and humanity.I really don't understand where this sentiment comes from, I thought the story was kind of a clusterfuck of things that ultimately didn't mean anything and a lot of the sequencing and pacing of things felt very wrong. The big complaint is the game doing basically nothing with A2 and assuming you saw the Japan-only stage play instead of actually putting her story in the game, and also the game tells you what's going on with 2B way too late and also doesn't really make enough of a spectacle out of the reveal. Being the followup to a game whose gimmick is giving you additional context and then prompting you to play another route with that new knowledge you'd expect that to be how it's done, but the game gives you pretty much zero reason to give a fuck about any of the characters until the end of the last route where you have nothing left to replay. It's baffling.
Ultimately I think Automata's message and atmosphere is incredibly compelling but the "story" itself and the general delivery of everything is kind of shit and it's extra frustrating because I think it could have been really solid with just a few changes. I got a lot more out of the first game's story.

All games are art. The entry bar for what counts as art should be extremely low anyway. Most of them aren't highbrow art.
>>714342169Games/movies/books can be art, but not all games/movies/books are art

Shit gameplay and the open world sucks ass. Carried hard by soundtrack and presentation, anyone who disagrees is a certified shill.
STALKER is much better than Taroslop.

Not even the best game in its own series.
>>714341449 (OP)They certainly could be, but games involve more distinct skill sets than anything I can think of. It would take at least a half dozen masters to create a true masterpiece. Would likely compromise the fun part too. Itโs a very young art form.
>>714342390Precisely. Art isn't defined by a medium.
And more importantly, it doesn't matter if something is or isn't art. It can still be shit or great, you can still like it or not, we can still be passionate about it or disregard it.
"Art is GOD!" fags are truly the worstest.
>>714342558he made that stellar blade thread too
>>714343452If art can be shit, yet not everything in a medium is art, then it would depend on intent right? It works, but itโs easier to call everything art. Photography is literally nothing, but can be quite meaningful and beautiful. Guy drops his glasses at a gallery and people marvel at them. Pretentious fart sniffers, but it highlights that everything can be beautiful in some way, without any intent. I canโt see where youโd draw the line, so it comes down to good or bad or personal meaning.
