There's this thing called "Specialty Priority", basically when you Level up certain cards up to a certain point, they'll start to favor the same type as the respective training (like stamina card appearing more during Stamina training).
Granted, this would require you to be very selective and Level up a lot of cards, but having at least some of them would reduce the RNGesus by quite a bit.

The gameplay is a stat raising sim, /v/ has had a fondness for them with the likes of Monster Rancher, IM@S and Princess Maker, PowerPros as well to an extent.
Girls are cute but more importantly, the stories make you feel like you're actually part of their lives as you train them, you get invested in your own efforts and want your girls to succeed.
Also probably helps that the gacha part isn't as much of a requirement unless you want to run PVP so most discussion is story related, horse facts or cheering on umas and occasionally talking about the ones that are coming up.

If it is well designed, it will provided the tools needed for you to overcome great challenges with lower number units at the expense of your time to increase their numbers and give them and edge.
