Seriously, why does EVERYTHING have to be an RPG these days?. Why does every game need to be 100 hours long, with retarded NPCs that have nothing to say, and with "leveling" mechanics that add nothing of substance to my experience?. True Action games need to make their triumphant comeback already. No more RPG slop, from the japs or from the west!.

Just played wanted dead for an hour and it was pretty basic and unsatisfying (the game isn't janky like retards say btw), should I just refund or it gets better later on?

>Why does every game need to be 100 hours long
Must be bait because everything I see today is 15 hour adhd slop you beat over a weekend.

> why does EVERYTHING have to be an RPG these days?
The industry has deliberately warped and distorted all the genres and definitions to check off as many categories as possible so they will claim everything is an action, adventure, open-world, rpg, shooter, platformer, crafting game.
Then when people who actually have a specific niche try searching for it they just get bombarded with the same mainstream slop.
>Witcher 3 is totally just like Oblivion so is everything else buy buy buy!

Because 80 of those 100 hours are worthless padding, inane dialogue, and grinding through slow battles. The grinding part is alleviated if it's a real-time game, but the padding issue remains. I wish The Witcher 3 was a linear action game, or something more condensed like a Classic Zelda game. I'd rather have 20 hours worth of high quality, polished content than 100 hours of worthless trash.

Because if theyre not entertaining for most people that watch it whats the point? The whole fucking point of media is to entertain, that of which turn based dialogue filled padded fetch questlines do not fulfill.

Soulslop and Action RPGs are the MOST playable, because they have, y'know, some ACTION to them?. Turn-based slop is the worst offender.

Gaymers often rave about how some JRPGs have "le best stories", but in reality most action titles have better ones, and are told better too. Pretty sure The Last of Us mogs about 99% of JRPGs in existence.

Outside of several outliers, the action in souls like games is very mediocre and not the selling point

The Souls games live up to the "action" aspect, but not so much on the "RPG" aspect.
You might want to try out the Castlevania games Synphony of the Night, Aria of Sorrow, Dawn of Sorrow, Curse of Darkness and Portrait of Ruin.
Otherwise, Outward has cool action once you get good. But it is painful before getting good.
Don't know about Dragons Dogma because it is still on my backlog but the combat looks good.
Then there is Atlyss but that's also a furry game so you have to be ok with that. And the brony RPG had surprisingly good gameplay.

>>714363743
There is also Double Dragon Gaiden but it has some character progression with upgrades you buy with cash after every boss or miniboss so I don't know if that's already too much RPG for you. Runs are only 3 hours or sop though and it is very light on story.

They really don't. The action is serviceable at best with little room for any exploration of mechanics.
I've played castlevanias, great series but not really what I'm itching for when it comes to 'action' RPGs.

Yet there are barely any games including RPGs where your choices matter.
Maybe 20 notable ones ever not counting VNs and text-based crap at best you just have good/bad end.

Maybe the whole point of RPGs is to give losers a way to escape and feel successful in a virtual world. Take Dark Souls, for example. If you were stuck with whatever you started with from beginning to end, nobody would actually play it. Itโ€™s a genre for doomers with no discipline that forces players to win through stats

This. Game devs have to justify price markup so they bloat game time without any meaningful gameplay

99% (with a 1% margina of error) of games are designed so children will also be able to follow along, you arent getting David Lynch story/imagery or hardcore action like a Rambo movie or Heat.
Play Dark Souls like games which challenge and dont give a fuck about you as a player if you want a non-childlike experience, otherwise play with the big colorful blocks the devs slop out on your plate faggot

"Dark Souls like" obviously if you guide your way through it with wiki and internet its not hard or even challenging, no game is, its just if/else statements that are designed to get you to the finale
